Umuganura 2026 celebrated in Groningen
On Saturday, 8 August 2026, the Embassy of Rwanda co-hosted the Umuganura celebration with the Rwandan community in the Netherlands at Clubhuis Sportpark West-End in Groningen.
Umuganura is Rwanda’s traditional harvest festival; a cherished occasion to express gratitude for the year’s achievements, celebrate Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage and reflect on the values of unity, cooperation and shared prosperity.
The afternoon began with preparations and a warm welcome for the guests. Once everyone had gathered, the community presented the fruits of the 2026 harvest, symbolising both Rwanda’s agricultural traditions and the collective achievements of the past year.
Parfait Rutayisire formally welcomed the participants, after which Innocent Iradukunda, representing the Rwandan community in the Netherlands, addressed the gathering. Following a short break, Ambassador Lambert Dushimimana delivered his remarks, highlighting the significance of Umuganura and the importance of preserving Rwanda’s cultural values while living abroad.
The celebration continued with the traditional sharing of the harvest. Participants enjoyed food and refreshments together in a warm and festive atmosphere. The gathering offered an opportunity to reconnect, strengthen friendships and celebrate the bonds that unite the Rwandan community.
The event concluded after an evening of fellowship and cultural celebration, leaving participants with a renewed appreciation for Rwanda’s heritage and the spirit of unity at the heart of Umuganura.
