Visit Rwanda at Vakantiebeurs in Utrecht

The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) uses its presence at the Vakantiebeurs Holiday Fair 2024 in Utrecht to let both Dutch consumers and travel professionals know that, in addition to the gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda has even more special sights, such as the Akagera NP (savannah & the Big5) and Nyungwe NP (ancient forest), the various coffee and tea plantations that can be visited or the 227 kilometer long Congo Nile Trail along Lake Kivu, which can be traveled on foot, by bicycle or 4WD and where you can also spend the night close to the local population.

Kayaking and singing fishermen
Sports enthusiasts and active travelers are increasingly getting their money's worth in Rwanda. During a tour, breathtaking visits to national nature reserves alternate with, for example, a day of kayaking on Lake Kivu. This lake has an irregular coastline, with many sandy beaches and a wide range of small islands to discover. There are no hippos or crocodiles here, making paddling safe. A true highlight are the singing Rwandan fishermen at sunset.

Kwita Izina
In September 2024, the Kwita Izina event will be held for the 20th time, inspired by a centuries-old tradition in which Rwandans name their children in the presence of family and friends. In 2005, Rwanda officially began naming mountain gorillas. The ceremony has grown into a major event and is a unique opportunity to celebrate and thank the local communities surrounding Volcanoes National Park, research partners, veterinarians and dedicated conservationists, rangers and trackers who protect the gorillas. In the past 19 years, 397 mountain gorillas have been named. In addition to many international celebrities, Louis van Gaal, Lieke van Lexmond and Mark van Eeuwen also had the honor of being present as namers.
